Common questions

What happens at the first appointment?
Your first consultation typically lasts 30 to 45 minutes. I take a detailed history, perform a clinical examination, review any previous tests, and discuss a plan with you. If further tests are needed, I explain what they involve and why.
Do I need a referral from my GP?
No, a GP referral is not required and you can book a consultation directly. A referral letter is still helpful if you have one, as it summarises your history, and with your consent I will keep your GP informed about your care.
Do you accept private health insurance?
I am recognised by Vhi Healthcare, Laya Healthcare, Irish Life Health, and Level Health, and by the St Paul's Garda Medical Aid, POMAS, and ESB schemes. Please check with your insurer that your policy covers a consultation with a cardiologist before booking. Self-paying patients are also welcome.
Can I be seen urgently?
If you have new or worsening chest pain, severe breathlessness, or feel unwell with a racing heart, call 999 or 112 or go to your nearest emergency department. For urgent but non-emergency concerns, contact Beacon Hospital and we will do our best to see you promptly.
What should I bring to my appointment?
Please bring a list of your current medications, any recent test results or letters from other doctors, and your insurance details if applicable. If you have specific questions, it helps to write them down beforehand.
